IRS Extends Tax Relief for Those Affected by Conflict in Israel Through 2026

Compassion in Action: IRS Offers Extended Support to Global Taxpayers Amid Crisis

Washington, D.C. — September 30, 2025
In a continued effort to support individuals and businesses impacted by the ongoing conflict in Israel, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced an extension of tax relief measures through September 30, 2026. This move provides affected taxpayers with additional time to file federal returns, make payments, and complete other time-sensitive tax-related actions.

The newly issued Notice 2025-53 builds upon previous guidance—Notice 2023-71 and Notice 2024-72—which offered relief to those affected by terroristic actions in Israel beginning October 7, 2023. The latest notice expands the relief window to include deadlines occurring between September 30, 2025, and September 30, 2026.

Eligible taxpayers include individuals and businesses located in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, who now have until September 30, 2026 to meet their federal tax obligations. The IRS will automatically apply relief to those whose principal residence or business is in the covered areas, based on previously filed returns.

Taxpayers outside the designated regions who believe they qualify can request relief by contacting the IRS Disaster Hotline at 866-562-5227, or for international callers, 267-941-1000.

This compassionate extension underscores the IRS’s commitment to supporting taxpayers during times of crisis, ensuring that financial obligations do not compound the challenges faced by those affected.

For full details on eligibility and the scope of relief, taxpayers are encouraged to review Notice 2025-53, Notice 2024-72, and Notice 2023-71 available on IRS.gov.
