🔙 Building on a Strong Finish
Penn State found its rhythm in Western Pennsylvania last week, closing out the Nemacolin Collegiate Invitational with a powerful surge. The Nittany Lions were one of just six teams to finish under par in a competitive 19-team field, posting a stellar 7-under 857 — their best team score relative to par since March 2023.
Freshman Nick Werner made a splash, finishing runner-up at the Shepherd’s Rock Individual with a 6-under 210, just two strokes off the lead. Fellow freshman Jackson Saroney delivered a clutch performance, going bogey-free over his final 16 holes to finish tied for 15th at 3-under 213.
Junior Alex Creamean continued his consistent form, securing his second straight top-20 finish with a 2-under 214, highlighted by a dazzling 5-under 67 in round two. Tim Peters also impressed, climbing 24 spots on the final day with a 3-under 69 to finish tied for 44th.
⛳ Ready for Kentucky
The Nittany Lions will face a strong field this week, including host Kentucky, along with Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Memphis, Michigan, Mississippi State, NC State, North Alabama, Toledo, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Western Kentucky.
After his standout individual performance, Nick Werner earns his first start in the team lineup, replacing Billy Pabst Jr. He joins a solid core led by Saroney, Creamean, Andres Barraza, and Peters.
Creamean leads the team this fall with a 70.33 stroke average and two top-20 finishes, while Saroney follows with a 72.83 average. As a team, Penn State is averaging 290 strokes per round through six rounds — a promising sign heading into Lexington.
💬 Eyes on the Prize
With confidence high and young talent stepping up, Penn State is poised to make a statement at the Cullan Brown Collegiate. The Nittany Lions are not just competing — they’re building something special.
